Ynez Johnston
1937- 1946 BA and MA of Fine Arts at the University of California, Berkeley trained as a draftsman, painter and print-maker.
A painter, sculptor and printmaker, Ynez's distinguished career spans over 60 years. She hails from Berkeley, and continues to work in her home studio in Los Angeles.
Her exhibitions span the globe: Metropolitan Museum, Norton Simon Museum, Achenbach Collection, San Francisco, Los Angeles County Museum, Dallas Museum of Art, Milwaukee Art Museum, National Museum of Israel, National Gallery of Art, Whitney Museum of Art to name just a few. Her grants and awards notable and numerous.
After completing her studies at UC Berkeley, Ynez traveled to Europe, Mexico and Asia and melds those influences in exquisitely detailed two and three dimensional works. Citing Pre-Columbian stone carvings, Tibetan, Indian and Persian art as influences, as well as the architecture of Gaudi and the works of Picasso, Braque coupled with the flavor of Kandinsky and Klee. We are presented with a wholly satisfying banquet of mystical delights.
Ynez's fanciful imaginary landscapes vibrate with blues, lime greens, yellows, purples, detailed yet accessible and inviting.
